Deer, Ostrich and Birds Oh My!

On our way to Tucson to see Derek and Jackie, we stopped at Rooster Cogburns Ostrich Ranch. Jacob needed to get out of the car so this was a perfect place to stop for a stretch.
Jacob was fascinated by the deer. They were all very sweet and eager to get fed.
This is Andrea, Jacob's big sister feeding the deer.
Jacob feeding the deer with daddy. You could tell he wanted to touch them.
So then we went on to the ostrich. Needless to say, mommy would not let Jacob get too close.
Ostrich are mean, stinky and kind of dumb. But the mean part was the most concerning to me.

When you tried to drop the food in the tray, then would all start pecking immediately. I was ready to go on to feeding the birds - or so I thought!
So they told us not to open the nectar until we got way into the area where the bird were, or they would dive bomb us - hello, dive bomb?
So we went in and let the birds get settled and then opened the nectar. Jacob was also fascinated by the birds. I think he liked being so close to them.
Andrea thought it was pretty cool too. Sometimes more than one would land on your arm, and then they would battle it out to see who got the nectar. Not my favorite part!
Once again, mommy was not so thrilled, especially when the birds were up by my face - as you can see by this lovely picture of me!

The birds loved my hair for some reason, so they kept landing on my backpack and chewing and pecking at my hair.
I think Jacob looks a lot like his daddy in this picture - I love my handsome guys!
The birds were beautiful, but I was happy to go!
